04 Painted Portrait
In this piece, I worked to combine black-and-white photography with vibrant digital painting techniques. I set the original photo to Multiply layer mode, which allowed the grayscale tones to blend seamlessly with the colors I painted on the layers below. My goal was to transform the photograph into something dynamic and expressive while maintaining its original texture and depth.
I used realistic skin tones and added bold colors, like the vibrant red for the clothing and an earthy tone for the hat, to create a strong visual balance. I paid close attention to shading and layering multiple hues, especially around the face, to add dimension and keep the subject’s features true to life. For the background, I experimented with abstract vertical patterns to create contrast and give the piece a more modern, stylized feel.
Looking back, I feel that the black-and-white abstract background patterns could have been better integrated. Cleaning up the edges and refining the design would have made the background less distracting and more cohesive with the overall piece.
